Thoravej 29

pihlmann architects

Thoravej by pihlmann architects is the ambitious transformation project of an industrial building of 1967 in Copenhagen, Denmark. While the former factory building was lately only used by the administration of the municipality, the transformation of 2025 provided a vibrant mix of cultural and community functions, increasing the usable surface area from 6.200 m² to 6.500 m².

This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by allowing the building to recycle itself. Floor slabs become staircases, façades turn into pavement, and fittings into furniture - a pragmatic reuse of resources that treats the building as its own material bank. But not only the building itself aims to transform: The new communities revolve around creating profound, positive change for people and society.
