The Gyldenrisparken project by Vandkunsten is development of housing blocks dating back to the mid-1960s in Copenhagen, Denmark. The previous residential complex has evolved since its renovation in 2014, containing both non-profit housing and a nursing home. Around the turn of the millennium, the tall concrete blocks had become so worn down that demolition was considered. Instead, decision-makers opted for extensive renovation and thus saved an immense amount of building material. The new project focuses on sustainability and community enhancement, improving living conditions while preserving the original character. With upgraded insulation, ventilation, and energy systems, the complex achieves high environmental performance. Outdoor spaces are redesigned to promote social interaction and greenery, fostering a sense of community.
