The Cosmopolitan by Bogdan & Van Broeck is an impressive renovation project of a modernist high-rise slab of the 1960s in Brussels, Belgium. While the building was previously only used for office spaces, the transformation completed of 2019 provides 156 dwellings as well as two office levels, increasing the usable surface area from previous surface area to 15.075 m².
This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by providing an example of how to treat historically critical architecture. By converting the façade and the outer image, the perception of the building can be changed and a new way of looking at it is being implemented. This practice opens new possibilities for operating with heavily saturated and critically acclaimed architecture.
