Sacred Heart School

Lieven Dejaeghere architecten

Sacred Heart School by Architect Lieven Dejaeghere is a reorganisation and expansion project of an old school of the 16th century in Izegem, Belgium. While the building was previously only used for educational purposes, the conversion of 2013 provided new living spaces, increasing the usable surface area from previous surface area to new surface area.
This project contributes to the socio-ecological transformation by showing how with relatively small interventions a building can be repurposed. With keeping the original floor plan, the former classrooms were reorganised using conservatory glass walls. These at the same time separate the different functionalities within the flat such as kitchen, bath- and bedroom, while keeping the original image of the room as a whole alive.
