Castle Ruin by Tp3 Architekten is a redevelopment project of the Castle Ruin of 1310 in Austria, Reichenau. While the castle was used as residency for nobility, for defense and as a center of military power, the transformation starting 2004 provided public space and new, modern and barrier-free toilet facilities, increasing the usable surface area from previous surface area to 2.500 m².
This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by achieving substantial quality improvements to support theater and cultural events as well as the touristic use. The outer walls of the south-east wing were stabilized with a continuous concrete ring, which also serves as a base for a future temporary stage roof. The project also aims to highlight the castle’s historical and regional importance. The book “Burgruine Reichenau”, available at the municipal office or tourist board, supports ongoing restoration efforts through its proceeds.
