De Nieuwe Molens Housing Complex

Rapp+Rapp

De Nieuwe Molens Housing Complex by Rapp+Rapp is a remarkable renovation and conversion project of an old and heavily reworked mill of late 19th-century in Ghent, Belgium. While the building was previously only used as a flour factory, the transformation completed in 2020 provides modern residential spaces, increasing the usable surface area from previous surface area to 13.900 m².
This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by showing how buildings or structures are under constant transformation. Even before the big conversion from an industrial site to a dwelling space, the mill has undergone several reorganisations and additions. The result is a multi-layered building complex that offers a variety of different flat layouts and special experiences.
