Town hall Kortrijk by noArchitecten is a renovation and reorganisation project of an existing bank building of 1970s in Kortrijk, Belgium. While the structure next to the historical town hall and the market square was previously only used as a bank, the transformation of 2005 provided a new City Hall and home for the city’s administrative services, increasing the usable surface area from previous surface area to 10.000m².
This project contributes to socio-ecological transformation by making a formerly privatised space accessible to the public and adding a new face to the city’s repertoire. The open-plan building with large furniture elements fosters a public atmosphere, while domestic touches and a new public entrance invite people to use the space as an extension of the town square.
