Gleichrichterwerk Bastianstraße

Inken und Hinrich Baller

Gleichrichterwerk Bastianstraße by Inken and Hinrich Baller is a distinctive renovation project of a historic U-Bahn converter station of 1930 in Berlin, Germany. While the building was previously only used as a power supply for underground railway operation, the conversion of 1982 provided residential units, increasing the usable surface.

This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by preserving historical heritage while enhancing community living. Through adaptive reuse, the project minimises new construction while providing modern amenities. The conservation of material and the choosing of energy efficiency promotes sustainability and ecological resilience.
