Kaufhaus Breuer by BeL Sozietät for Architektur is an innovative renovation project of a partially abandoned department store of 1951 in Eschweiler, Germany. While the building was previously only occupied on the first floor by a drug store, the conversion of 2005 provided housing units and office space, increasing the usable surface area.

This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by revitalizing urban space while prioritizing sustainability and inclusivity. Through adaptive reuse, it mitigates environmental impact, fostering community cohesion with accessible design elements like private courtyards and communal spaces, setting a precedent for socially and environmentally conscious urban development.
