Municipal Library Labin

Gamulin

Municipal Library Labin by Gamulin is a transformation project of a mining complex of the 1920’s in Labin, Croatia. While the structure was previously only used for industrial purposes, the conversion of 2013 provided a new municipal library and square, increasing the usable surface area from previous surface area to 1300 m² for the library and 5200 m² for outside spaces.
This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by proposing a design commentary on the structure and places history. It stands in a dialogue with all the different political and economic areas, that the old mine has lived through and reacts to them with a modern approach without denying or trying to change the existing.
