Lysbüchel Süd

Esch Sintzel Architekten

Lysbüchel Süd by Esch Sintzel Architekten is an innovative renovation and conversion project of a monumental wine storage facility, Weinlager, of 1955 in Basel, Switzerland. While the building was previously only used for wine storage, the transformation of 2023 provideda vibrant residential complex comprising 64 apartments, a café, commercial spaces, joker and guest rooms, a common room, roof terrace, music rehearsal rooms, bicycle parking, and car parking.
This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by embracing diversity in tenant demographics, providing barrier-free access, and meeting the criteria for age-appropriate housing. It emphasizes sustainability in its resource utilization. The reuse of parts of the existing structure significantly reduced gray energy. The building prioritizes energy efficiency through features like limited energy consumption per person, Minergie P-ECO standards, and self-sufficiency in energy and heat production, reaching around 60%.
