The Ex Conterie project by Studio Macola is an innovative renovation of an industrial complex of the late 18th century in Murano, Italy. While the building was previously only used for industrial purposes and remained vacant, the transformation of 2015 provided two new dwelling blocks of 36 and 18 units.
This project contributes to the social-ecological transformation by repurposing a disused industrial area on the island of Murano, fostering sustainability through adaptive reuse. By reintegrating the abandoned factory into the urban fabric, it promotes efficient land use and preserves the historical heritage. The opening of certain parts of the perimeter wall increases public permeability and encourages community engagement. This initiative not only breathes new life into the historical industrial site but also provides modern housing options within its unique framework.
