Lo-Reninge Town Hall by noAarchitecten is a careful restoration and expansion project of an old convent of the 16th century in Lo-Reninge, Belgium. While the building was previously only used as a convention hall, the transformation of 2011 provided in addition a new town hall, increasing the usable surface area from previous surface area to 940m².
This project contributes to the socio-ecological transformation by providing an example for considerate handling of historical buildings. It is a good example of how the materiality and design language can be linked to the historical building without compromising on modernity. The result is a unified overall picture whose architecture itself bridges the gap between modernism and the Middle Ages.
